About the Classroom
I want my students to GET MATH and ENJOY it. I want students
to ask themselves why math works, so our classroom environment will be based on
these social norms:
to ask themselves why math works, so our classroom environment will be based on
these social norms:
- Students will explain and justify logic
- Students are obliged to share their reasoning
- Students will ask for help when needed
- Students will not laugh at others' mistakes
- Students are obliged to ask clarifying questions
- Students will try to solve problems before asking the teacher
for help - Students must be willing to argue logic in positive
ways.
Class Expectations
Be Honest
Be Kind
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
Be Your Best
Each day I expect students to be timely, will all needed materials (including
completed homework) and ready to work. Students should always enter and
exit the room in a calm, organized manner and are expected to
be orderly in the halls. Cover your textbook to keep it undamaged. Always have
a book to read or other work to keep you productive and quiet in case we have
extra time during class.

Preparedness
Each day you will need to be prepared for class with the
following items: assignment book, covered textbook, workbook, and binder.
Within the 1 inch binder you will have loose-leaf paper, tabs, and a pencil
pouch containing: 4-function calculator, eraser, pencils and cap erasers
and grading pens. ALL MATH WORK WILL BE IN PENCIL.
*Preparedness may be taken for an occasional grade.

Homework
You will need to be responsible outside of class too as you are expected to take on more responsibility this year with homework, an important part of the extended school day. I do my best to explain directions clearly and give students working time on homework before class dismissal. Your
cooperation in using time wisely in class largely affects how much working time
you receive. All work needs to be labeled in the upper right-hand corner as such:
*First and Last Name
*Date
*Assignment page and problem numbers
*Class Period
Papers without names receive NO CREDIT and will be thrown away as the papers are unable to be graded. Other parts of this label may be taken for a grade. Students are responsible for turning in late and absent work. I will not seek out students to notify them of missing work. When turning in late or absent work, write and circle LATE or ABSENT at the top of the sheet. If nothing is written, I will assume the work is late and follow the corporation's Late work Policy.

Technology
We are one of two classrooms in our building with the opportunity to use iPads.
The iPads have the potential to revolutionize the
way we conduct class and how we learn. Therefore, students will be asked to commit to abide by the
stipulations given in class. IPad Expectations will be sent home and posted here at a later date.
